Q: What are the benefits of sleeping on silk?
A: Ordinary cotton or bamboo sheets tug and twist the hair eventually causing knotting, frizz and infant bald spots, our 100% Mulberry Silk allows hair to glide smoothly across the sleep surface, minimising friction and solving the problem!
The perfect material for sensitive skin, silk is a natural, breathable fibre that is naturally hydrating. The temperature regulating properties of silk ensure bub stays cool and comfortable while in the car and all night long.
Silk is also naturally hypoallergenic and dust mite resistant, making it perfect for bubs with allergies.
Q: How do I care for my Silk products?
A: All Silky Tots products are made from the highest quality silk to ensure longevity but they will last longer with proper care. It is important to use a ph. neutral detergent (or one that specifies use on silk/wool) as solutions that are too acid or too alkaline can damage the silk and cause it to harden. These detergents can be picked up in all major supermarkets, our favourite is the ecostore eucalyptus wool and delicates wash (see here). Cold hand wash with a splash of detergent, gently squeeze out the excess water before hanging to dry.
Q: What is a Silk Cot Slip?
A: Silky Tots Silk Cot Slip is a silk band that slips around your baby's cot mattress, over the top of your normal cot sheet to create a silky barrier between your baby's head and the rough sheet below. The slip has a stretchy panel on the back that enables it to snuggly fit any standard cot mattress.
Q: Will sleeping on Silk stop hair loss?
A: Babies can experience hair loss after birth due to hormonal changes (some far more than others) this is a completely natural process and not something that can be controlled.
However, not all hair loss is naturally occurring. Babies spend long periods of time lying on cotton and bamboo which pulls and tugs at their fine hair, eventually creating a bald spot. Using a Silk Cot Slip reduces this friction as bub’s head glides and slides easily across the silk. Our Silk Head Support also aids in the battle against hair loss by cocooning bub in silk whilst in the car, in the pram or on play mats, bouncers etc.
Q: Does the Silk Cot Slip fit all cots?
A: Our Slips have a handy stretch panel in the back that allows the band to fit snugly around any standard cot mattress (including oval shape mattresses, when placed in the middle of the cot). Note: in 2001 the Infant Nursery Product Association of Australia (INPPA) recommended one standard cot mattress size to be manufactured in Australia (1300 x 690 x 130).
Q: Can I use a Silk Sot Slip on a bassinet or pram mattress?
A: Yes, our Silk Cot Slips can be safely used in bassinets and prams. Simply fold the band over on the underside, pulling firmly to ensure a snug fit then place securely in the bassinet/pram. We include an instruction card with diagrams with all purchases but please do contact us if you have any further questions. We also currently offer limited edition bassinet size slips.
Q: Where should I position Silk Cot Slip in my baby's cot?
A: Following the SIDS sleep safe guidelines, bub’s feet should be placed at the bottom of the cot, meaning the band should be placed around the middle of the mattress. As babies grow they tend to wriggle their way up the cot so our Silk Cot Slip is designed so it can be placed in your bub’s favourite spot.
Q: Does the Silk Cot Slip follow SIDS safety guidelines?
A: Yes, Silky Tots Silk Cot Slip has been carefully developed with the SIDS safety guidelines in mind. Read more on baby sleep safety here:
